Welcome to the Authocracy Blog

Hi there. I’m Laurens, one of the founders here @ Authocracy Studios. We're an artist-owned multimedia company: a scrappy ensemble of about a dozen illustrators, animators, composers, graphic designers, and writers creating a story-and-game ecosystem that is loyal to its fans and its creators, and is committed to being a force for good in the multimedia spaces it occupies. We know. You’ve heard all that before.

Here’s the conundrum: We can’t prove to you how chill our people are without inviting you to our company meetings, and we can’t surprise and delight you if we do that. So here’s our solution: we’re starting a blog and a whole bunch of other outreach initiatives to invite you into our lives and make sure you know who you’re supporting.

The truth is, we’re literally just a bunch of artists. We don’t have a dedicated marketing guy or some massive venture capitalist fund to carry us to an audience of millions. We’re just making some cool stuff and hoping people notice. All the nice business people we’ve spoken to say that makes us naive, but then they get upset when we won’t take their money for equity. So. We’re pretty sure we’ve got something good here. We hope you agree!

What Products does Authocracy Make?

For the last several years, we’ve been writing highly illustrated sci-fi and fantasy stories that can be read for free on the Mythrill reading app or purchased online. On the physical editions, every turn of the page has its own full color spot illustration depicting the events being described: giving an experience halfway between a traditional illustrated novel and a graphic novel.

People have described it as a perfect compromise between the two formats that is just vivid enough to really capture tone but leaving enough to the imagination to allow for a theater of the mind experience.

More recently, we’ve just launched the Kickstarter for our first game, Paragons: Age of Champions. It’s a ‘TCG-like’ (Think Magic: the Gathering or Hearthstone), but with no booster pack RNG. We feel that this practice takes advantage of addictive personality types, so our monetization model is an all-in-one boxed set with optional expansions once a year.

In the near future, we will be expanding into the Podcast scene with highly produced comedy shows, behind-the-scenes glimpses at our company, and yes: complete Audio Dramas of our stories! More details on these will be forthcoming imminently.

We have a lot of great contacts in the multimedia industry that are greatly anticipating what Authocracy does next, and in that regard we are very fortunate indeed. We can’t share more with you on that front just yet, but what we can say is that you can expect to be hearing our name a lot more in the years to come.

What Sort of Posts Can I expect on this blog?

We’re going to have company-wide updates (like this post), product updates (posts about our stories, games, etc.), and all of our free media content (podcasts, animatics, and more) shared here. If you want to stay informed on what’s the latest ‘scoop’ over @ Authocracy, or if you just want to be entertained for free: please consider signing up! We don’t spam and we take your privacy very seriously. For us, the purpose of this blog is to start being more effective communicators to our audiences.
