Securing the Conference
Briefing
You and your squad are to attend an academic conference in Berlin on advances in battery technology in secret as backup. Another group of Vanguards are publicly there to give lectures as official speakers at a conference. We suspect that a group of Machiavellians may try to kidnap scientists in attendance at the conference to force them to help develop their technologies. You are to keep a low profile, though keep your flight suits and equipment in your hotel room just in case. This mission will likely involve: Stealth, espionage, and protecting civilian targets.

On the Ground
The first day of the conference you get your bearings and attend the conference normally. During a cocktail hour you are able to secretly communicate with K10 Theta. You set up a few nonverbal communication queues. What do you want to do for: Hold position:, Advance, and wait/now. Any other queues you wish to execute?
At day 2 of the conference you and your group are milling about the hotel lobby at a cocktail hour when suddenly the background music cuts harshly and a voice comes over the loudspeaker. It says: “Members of K10 Theta, we are armed and have several sets of hostages surrender yourself and your flight suits to Theatre 2 or we will start killing civilians until you comply. Any attempts at outside communication by you or anyone civilian or otherwise, will be met harshly.” A screen in the lobby shows an area that has black canvas set up so-as to be non-descript with several civilians you recognize from the conference. It changes camera perspectives a few times, but gives you no real indication of where they are being held.
The leader of K10 Theta signals discreetly to your party that they will try to stall but need to comply for now. Your objectives, in order of importance, are as follows. Ensure that K10 Theta are not captured: captured vanguards, and captured vanguard tech, will only make the Machiavellians stronger. Ensure the survival of the civilians: losing the scientists would be a terrible loss of life and a loss to the Ethocratic Republic. If three groups of civilians are killed. You will be forced to stand down. Discern if the Machiavellians are trying to kidnap a scientist, and save them if possible. You have permission to kill Machiavellians, but it would be preferred to keep them alive for interrogation.
Scenario notes
Scenario is failed K10 Theta are captured or 3 sets of civilians are killed forcing a surrender.
Environment rolls are triggered upon: K10 Theta rejecting an order at your request, being detected/identified as Vanguards, and actively hostile actions towards the kidnappers.
The Map is a hotel with walking bridge over a highway to a conference building. There are basement garages with an underground walkway under the highway.
Machiavellians are after one of the scientists they have in the initial group of hostages (choose at loadout). If attacked they will grab two of the hostages and try to back away.
Setup
At the start of the mission choose (or roll dice) to determine the 2 locations for there to be groups of hostages: Conference room 1, Theatre 1, Theatre 3, Hotel Garage, and Conference center Garage.
You can additionally decide to change the location of where the Mac Boss is, if desired.
Enemies:
The room that has hostages will have a Mac Tech and Mac Grunts equal to the number of players (they will always be outnumbered by 1)
The Hotel Control Room has two Mac Grunts and basic walkie talkies. .
The Conference Control room has 1 Mac Tech, 2 Mac Grunts and 1 Mac Boss
Two Mac Grunts are guarding the basement in the Conference garage.
Theatre 3 (if there are no hostages) will contain two Grunts, which if they are engaged on directly will immediately call for backup
Suggested Difficulties:
Sneaking by cameras in the hotell should be about a Doable Agility Roll.
Sneaking by cameras in the Conference center, or sneaking up on hostages should be a Challenging Agility roll.
Attempting to enter a control room should be a challenging Hacking roll to bypass the lock or a Daunting strength roll (if not in a flight suit)
If K10 Theta makes it to their surrender point a helicopter will appear from the south and an explosion will blow a hole in the theatre.
Possible Endings to the Scenario:
If the players save both sets of hostages and contact K10 Theta, then K10 Theta will suit up and help diffuse the situation
If the players save one set of hostages and capture the mac boss boss they can get K10 Theta to help take the last set of hostages.
Timeline:
K10Theta moves to their hotel room (on right quadrant) to gather their equipment to surrender.
K10 Theta gathers their equipment and moves towards the conference center.
K10 Theta Delays in the conference center main room. Giving players a distraction but triggering an environment roll
K10 Theta go to Theatre 3
K10 Theta surrender and a helicopter appears.
Macc’s blow up wall of Theatre 3 and escape with hostages and/or K10 Theta.
If uninterrupted or 4 rounds of combat pass they get away.

Overarching Danger:
Execute Hostages (Time 3, 6)
Hostages will be executed after 3 and 6 environmental effects are activated.
On activation one set of hostages are executed.
If one set of hostages have been saved upon activation, flip a coin to see which set of hostages are ordered to be executed.
1: Move Hostages (Danger, Max 2)
The hostages move locations and are no longer known (Immediate)
Diffuse: a Drone and be used to track them
Resolve: in 8 mins in game the hostages will be in a different location.
2: Ambush! (Danger, Max 2)
Two Maccivelians get a drop on you. If identifiable as vanguards immediately trigger combat after they have one round of actions. If you look like civilians they will order you into a room.
Diffuse:
If a player has an active Drone the enemies do not get surprise and combat is initiated normally or they are able to evade
3: Explosion! (Danger, max 2)
An explosion erupts above you threatening to rain glass and debris on civilians below. If not in combat all players get one round to react to the situation (in any order)
4: Disrupt comms (Danger, max 1)
Your com system is disrupted. All verbal communication is now out loud and can potentially give away your position.
Diffuse:
Find and Disable comm jammer (Doable Wit or Calculation check once found)
Hack frequency and disable remotely (Requires Hacking, Challenging roll)
Continues till defused
5: “Cut the Lights” (Opportunity, max 1)
All stealth rolls gain +2, all ranged attacks take -1, all attempts to analyze objects take -1. Puts our all fires
Last until one more environment roll..
6: Fire! (Timer(2), Max 2)
A fire has been started in an adjacent area and the sprinkler systems are not triggering.
Diffuse
Fix the sprinklers (Engineer Doable roll)
Mix chemical compound from supplies (Medic, challenging roll)
Break a nearby water pipe to put out fire (2 Challenging rolls)
Add up to (1) to the timer by moving civilians in immediate danger away (3 doable actions)
On Trigger, a set of civilians are critically injured (and will die if not medically attended to)
Environment notes
When an explosion is activated the first one comes from above the receptionist desk in the hotel, and the second is activated in the center of the hotel main lobby making a chandelier fall.
When the fire event is rolled a D6. If the number is even the fire is in the hotel elevator, if odd it starts from the hotel bar.
Signal jammer will be in a random hotel room (your choice) with one Mac Tech
